Red Light Therapy in South London
Support your recovery and well-being
Curious about red light therapy in South London and whether it’s worth trying?
At Contrast Anerley, you can add red light therapy for the body as an optional extra to your sauna and cold plunge session – a calm, non-invasive way to support recovery, skin health and general well-being.
What is red light therapy for?
Red light therapy (also called photobiomodulation or low-level light therapy) uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to gently stimulate cells in your body.
It’s typically used for:
Supporting recovery after training or day-to-day strain
Helping with skin appearance (fine lines, texture, general radiance)
Supporting joint comfort and stiffness
General “feel better” / wellness routines
The light doesn’t burn or tan the skin – it’s not a sunbed and doesn’t use UV. You simply sit or lie in front of the light for a set time while it does its thing at cellular level.
-
Research on red light therapy is still developing, but studies suggest potential benefits in areas like:
Muscle recovery & performance
Some trials show improved recovery markers, reduced muscle fatigue and improved performance when red or near-infrared light is used around exercise, as part of a broader recovery plan.
Skin health & appearance
Red light has been studied for supporting collagen, reducing the appearance of fine lines and improving overall skin texture and tone over time.
Joint comfort & inflammation
Certain protocols have been explored for helping with joint pain and stiffness, particularly when combined with other treatments and lifestyle changes.
We keep it honest: red light therapy is not a magic cure and we don’t claim to treat medical conditions. But as part of a recovery and wellness routine – alongside strength training, sleep, nutrition, sauna and cold – it can be a useful extra tool.
-
Session length and frequency depend on the device and the area of the body, but in general:
Typical session time: around 10–20 minutes per area
Frequency: often 2–4 times per week over a period of weeks for best results
At Contrast Anerley, we keep things simple:
Red light is booked as an add-on to your session
You’ll have clear timing so you’re not guessing how long to stay in front of the ligh
We’ll show you how to position yourself to get the most from your time
Consistency usually matters more than trying to blitz it in one mega session.
-
For most healthy adults, red light therapy is generally considered low-risk and well tolerated. However, not everyone should use it, and there are times when you should get medical advice first.
You should speak to your doctor or healthcare provider before using red light therapy if:
You have a history of skin cancer or suspicious / changing moles
You have photosensitivity (light sensitivity) or take medication that makes your skin light-sensitive
You have serious eye conditions or have had recent eye surgery
You are pregnant
You have any medical condition where extra light/heat exposure might be an issue
A few basic safety points:
Avoid staring directly into the light – keep eyes closed or use appropriate eye protection if needed
Do not use on broken, infected or badly irritated skin
Follow recommended time and distance guidelines – more is not always better
If in doubt, check with a professional first. Red light therapy is a wellness tool, not medical treatment or a substitute for proper diagnosis and care.
